We focus on improving outcomes across our infrastructure planning and design work, working with our clients to coordinate across programs and sectors to deliver resilient and sustainable places.
As a Sustainability Specialist you will work within a highly creative, multidisciplinary design team dedicated to optimizing building performance and design excellence with a focus on carbon reduction, responsible materials selection, resource conservation and on-site renewable energy generation while also meeting the functional and programmatic needs of the project. Participating in meetings, performing technical analysis, including but not limited to life‑cycle assessments, day lighting analysis, simple‑box energy modeling are desired.
Underdirection of the Sustainable Design Group Lead, tasks shall include:
- Provide support for any project team engaged in the planning, design, construction, transition to operations, deployment and operations & maintenance of projects with sustainability and/or resilient design goals
- Help ensure the overall design incorporates appropriate capabilities and technologies to enable compliance with all Federal regulations regarding energy conservation and environmental protection
- Direct, supervise and check activities of design and engineering team engaged in preparing drawings and specification documents for Conceptual Design, Schematic Design, and/or the Detailed Design Phases of a project
- Through briefings or other informal training procedures, help educate project team members and the client workforce about sustainability to help encourage a culture that desires to be conscience of resource use and the impact of facility design decisions
- Interface with the client and consultants as required
- Provide support for meetings and forums
- Perform technical reviews of project documents to ensure compliance with sustainability requirements
- Monitor progress and generally facilitate completion of sustainability related tasks.
- Help ensure compliance with federal regulations
- Supervise and execute building performance analyses using various methods to include simulation software such as Revit, Climate Studio, Forma, WUFI and others
- Provide front end support for the development of sustainability strategies
- Participate in corporate and technical training
- Periodic travel to project locations and other Jacobs offices may be required. A Hybrid Work Policy is in effect when not travelling
- BArch, BS in Architecture, Architectural Engineering or Engineering from an accredited degree program
- A certification or accreditation related to building performance, sustainability, or resilience such as Certified Commissioning Authority, Certified Energy Manager, WELL AP or in Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design AP
- At least 5 years of experience in sustainable, environmental, or resilient design
- Experience as the LEED Project Administrator on projects which have completed certification under LEEDv4
- Detailed knowledge of sustainability and integrated design processes
- Strong organizational skills to help facilitate multiple projects at one time, communication skills (both verbal and written), creative problem‑solving abilities
- Ability to effectively coordinate with project professionals and management teams, both internal and external
- Professional experience writing and developing project reports and presentations
- Demonstrated software experience with Microsoft Office
