This opportunity entails:

  • Conducting and supporting a wide range of multimodal transportation planning, safety, and operational initiatives, including corridor, intersection, bicycle, pedestrian, speed management, parking management, shared mobility, and traffic operations studies.
  • Conducting and supporting both short-term and long-range transportation planning efforts.
  • Reviewing land development applications, engineering plans, and site designs to assess transportation impacts and ensure compliance with applicable standards.
  • Performing transportation analyses, evaluations, and engineering studies to develop data‑driven recommendations and solutions for roadway safety and operational challenges.
  • Preparing and presenting technical reports, maps, exhibits, and other materials to effectively communicate transportation data and recommendations.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with state and local transportation agencies, developers, and other stakeholders.
  • Interpreting engineering drawings, site plans, and technical reports to develop practical engineering recommendations consistent with federal, state, and local laws, policies, and guidelines.
  • Utilizing traffic analysis, simulation, and other transportation planning tools to support project development and decision‑making.
  • Providing excellent customer service, exercising sound engineering judgment, and working collaboratively to solve complex transportation planning and engineering challenges.

As a member of the team, you will contribute to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.

What You’ll Do
  • Complete assigned work within the schedule and number of hours provided.
  • Assist in the development of project specifications.
  • Develop discipline‑specific engineering project elements/deliverables such as reports, designs, and plans.
  • Aid in the coordination and productivity of project team members.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced engineering project team members.
  • Work closely with other disciplines on multi‑discipline projects.
  • Perform quality control reviews of discipline‑specific engineering project elements/deliverables.
  • Assist with coordination and planning of schedules, hours, and distribution of work within discipline.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 years of relevant experience.
  • PhD in Engineering and 2 years of relevant experience.
What You’ll Bring
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to carry out complex projects effectively and simultaneously.
  • Experience with traffic simulation software (Synchro, HCS, VISIM, SIDRA, etc.), ArcGIS, Microsoft Office Suite, Micro Station and/or AutoCAD or other software as required for job assignments.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and review complex traffic studies.
  • Experience in traffic engineering, land use development application and site plan reviews.
  • Strong communication, presentation and public speaking skills, with experience in public involvement and presentation of technical information to public agencies, local leaders and stakeholders.
  • Optimizing work processes by using knowledge of the most effective and efficient ways to get things done with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Independently progresses the majority of designs and tasks required of the discipline.
  • Thorough understanding of the application related to engineering, geometric and algebraic principles.
  • Managing time, proactively forecasting, and communicating project development needs.
What We Prefer
  • Master’s degree in Engineering.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification (depending on discipline).
