Overview

Join us in our fast-paced support to develop, advance, and sustain weapon systems for the U.S. Space Force (USSF) and its mission partners. You will be joining a team with experience and knowledge of environments that include ground, near-space, space, and any system operating in those environments to meet current and projected strategic, operational, and tactical needs for the Department of Defense (DoD).

QinetiQ is a mission-led innovation company that works with the USSF and DoD to design, develop, field, and maintain requirements essential to national security and the survivability of the warfighter.

We are seeking a Tracking Systems Engineer to provide expert technical analysis and engineering support to government customers responsible for developing, acquiring, and sustaining space-based tracking and sensing capabilities under the SAF/SQ program. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in space sensing, NC3, and systems engineering across the acquisition lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Provide systems engineering support for space-based tracking, sensing, and NC3 programs including requirements analysis, architecture development, and trade studies
  • Evaluate contractor technical proposals, system specifications, and design documentation for space tracking and sensing systems; provide independent technical assessments and recommendations
  • Assess technical maturity, risk, and performance of tracking systems across all phases of the acquisition lifecycle
  • Support the revision or drafting of JCIDS and acquisition documentation such as Initial Capability Documents, Analysis of Alternatives, Concept of Operations, Technical/Systems Requirement Documents, and System Specifications
  • Advise the Government program manager on technical engagements (e.g., technical interchange meetings, design reviews, program conferences) and establish customer and contractor interfaces
  • Provide technical and operational insight to support mission protection, operations, and mission data assessments; recommend viable solutions for technical anomalies
  • Support development of Systems Engineering Plans (SEPs), Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMPs), and requirements verification matrices
  • Analyze space tracking data, sensor capabilities, and coverage architectures; provide recommendations to support acquisition decisions
  • Identify areas of improvement with actionable, feasible recommendations for reducing risk; support risk identification, process definition, and detailed technical risk mitigation plans
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related STEM discipline;
  • 8+ years of engineering experience with DoD space systems, sensor systems, or tracking technologies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of space situational awareness, satellite tracking, NC3 architectures, or related domains
  • Experience with systems engineering methodologies including requirements decomposition, interface management, and verification and validation
  • Experience supporting formal design reviews and independent technical assessments in a government or SETA capacity
  • Knowledge of IC, DoD, Air Force, Space Force, or SSC processes and procedures
  • Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to produce high-quality technical documents and executive briefings
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple competing priorities
  • Active TS w/ SCI Eligibility; #qinetiqclearedjob
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Experience with DoD space sensing programs such as Space Fence, OPIR, or NC3 modernization efforts
  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools such as Cameo or Magic Draw
  • INCOSE CSEP (Certified Systems Engineering Professional) or equivalent certification
