The Opportunity

In this role, you will perform the following:

  • Lead audio‑visual system designs and coordinate with other disciplines
  • Create conceptual and detailed A/V system designs, including producing design drawings, specifications and design analysis deliverables
  • Coordinate with a BIM/CAD team for drawing production
  • Perform quality control duties and independent technical reviews
  • Manage assigned budgets, scopes and schedules
  • Mentor and provide guidance/instruction to less experienced staff members

  • May perform fieldwork and write assessment reports
  • May assist with creation of design guides and templates
  • May provide support to business development or pursuit activities
The Team

The Black & Veatch Special Projects Corp. provides a full range of services to our primary client base – U.S. Government agencies and departments. Our focus areas include Architecture/Engineering (A/E) Services, Defense Program, Design/Build, Classified, and Environmental.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively provide guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and BV policies. May own the maintenance, updating, and development of engineering standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to others regarding projects or disciplines.
  • Apply knowledge and ensure compliance with BV quality program.
  • Establish related processes and promote a culture that is conducive to quality.
  • Support continuous improvement, change management and risk management efforts.
  • Prepare a variety of complex engineering deliverables for multiple or mega projects.
  • Perform complex research and develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
  • Oversee collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work.
  • Prepare complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles.
  • Manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Develop and apply advanced engineering solutions to complex problems.
  • Ensure project teams delegate appropriate tasks to lower‑level team members to develop depth of project execution staff.
  • Review lower‑level engineering work or assignments and lead production teams or coordinate multiple discipline activity.
  • Establish a work plan to be applied to a given project.
  • Actively coordinate with all other internal/external team members on complex projects.
  • Typically responsible for defining project schedules for single discipline or may have responsibility for multiple disciplines.
  • Determine key client interests and drivers on projects and communicate them to the project team.
  • Identify future client needs and how to position BV for the future, including support to business development or pursuit activities.
  • Serve as the technical specialist in a broad area of specialization or in a narrow but specialized field.
  • Develop and apply advanced engineering concepts and approaches to unique engineering problems.
  • Typically support multiple projects on very complex technical challenges.
  • Act as an industry expert, participate in professional societies, present papers, act as a section lead for a large or complex specialty area, or serve as an engineering consultant for larger scale projects.
  • May support a division chief engineer or top engineering management, and be accountable for discipline‑specific engineering processes.
Preferred Qualifications

As part of this role, you will be assigned to projects supporting U.S. Government Agency/Department clients. Due to the nature of the work, candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Knowledge of AVIXA, Info Comm, TIA, NEC, NFPA, and applicable federal criteria, standards, codes and best practices related to the design of audio‑visual, collaboration, presentation, and conferencing systems
