Tunnel Engineer
Mott Mac Donald is seeking professionals to join our ever-expanding tunnel team. We are currently looking for a versatile Tunnel Engineer with a background in structural and geotechnical engineering to join our Arlington, VA office. The successful candidate will be part of our tunnel resource group, focusing on underground design and construction projects. Experience in the transportation and water/wastewater sectors would be considered an asset.
Responsibilities include:
- Support the delivery of our existing portfolio of tunnelling projects in the U.S. and Canada
- Oversight of staff and execution of field investigation programs to collect data for use in design, condition assessments and the preparation of Reports
- Contribution to detailed analyses for our projects involving tunnels and underground structures
- Development of field instrumentation programs and evaluation of collected data
- Management of staff producing design solutions, reports, and contributions to/reviews of specifications and drawings
- Writing reports for submission to clients, including design-related technical memoranda and Reports
- Contribution to and preparation of proposals for submission to clients
- Managing and mentoring junior/graduate engineers and supporting their development
Candidate Specification:
- Bachelor's in civil, structural or geotechnical engineering is required, and a Masters in a related field is preferred
- Professional engineer (PE) license preferred or able to obtain one within a year
- At least 5 years of experience in engineering consultancy (not including education) focusing on tunnel/underground design
- NCTI Certified is preferred
- Proficient in the use of structural software: STRAND7, SAP, STAAD or equivalent
- Proficient in the use of geotechnical software, this may include Plaxis, Geo Studio packages/Slide, Rocscience packages, geotechnical data management (GINT/Holebase). A working knowledge of BIM tools (Bentley/Autodesk) would also be advantageous
- Demonstratable record in design with experience in geotechnical engineering, ground characterization for soil and rock and a working knowledge of concrete, steel and foundation design
- Interest in underground design and construction for the transport, water or waste water Sectors and multidisciplinary working
- Strong references from past managers or clients

The expected salary for this position is $91,000 - $111,000
Individual pay is determined based on several factors such as work location, education, experience, and unique skills.
