Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Location: Remote/ Preferably in the DC metro area
Our client is a growing government contracting firm delivering mission-critical solutions to federal agencies. With a strong pipeline and expanding portfolio, we are seeking a strategic Chief Financial Officer to help scale our operations, strengthen financial rigor, and position the company for its next phase of growth.

Position Overview
The CFO will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for the overall financial strategy, reporting, compliance, and capital structure of the company. This role requires a leader with experience, deep knowledge of government contracting, (preferably) and a track record of driving operational and financial excellence in complex, regulated environments. Key Responsibilities

Lead all aspects of financial management, including accounting, FP&A, treasury, tax, audit, and compliance
Oversee financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and ensure readiness for public company standards (SEC reporting, internal controls, etc.)
Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and Board, providing insights on growth, profitability, and risk management
Ensure compliance with government contract regulations, including FAR, CAS, and DCAA requirements
Drive budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes
Lead cash management, capital allocation, and financing strategy (debt/equity)
Establish and maintain strong internal controls and scalable financial systems
Support M&A activities, including due diligence and integration
Manage relationships with auditors, investors, banks, and government agencies
Build and mentor a high-performing finance team

Qualifications

Bachelor s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field (MBA and/or CPA strongly preferred)
10 15+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including prior CFO or senior finance executive role
Public company experience required (SEC reporting, SOX compliance, investor relations exposure)
Strong background in government contracting (FAR, CAS, DCAA audits, cost accounting)
Demonstrated success scaling financial operations in a growth-oriented environment
Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills

Preferred Experience

Experience with IPO readiness or taking a company public
Background in private equity-backed or high-growth environments
Familiarity with contract types (FFP, CPFF, T&M) and project-based accounting
