Reporting to the Corporate Assistant Controller, the Director oversees the corporation’s technical accounting and SOX compliance functions. The role involves leading the enterprise‑wide SOX compliance program, advising senior leadership on accounting and SOX implications of business decisions, and managing SEC reporting considerations under U.S. GAAP.
Technical Accounting Responsibilities- Lead the technical accounting function and serve as a subject‑matter expert in U.S. GAAP and SEC rules.
- Research, analyze, communicate, and document U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
- Prepare recurring and ad‑hoc memos on complex accounting matters, control deficiencies, impairment indicators, materiality assessments, and related party transactions.
- Implement new U.S. GAAP standards and SEC reporting requirements.
- Oversee technical accounting contract reviews and maintenance of corporate accounting and compliance policies.
- Monitor FASB and SEC standard‑setting and rule‑making activities.
- Review draft SEC filings and provide input on footnote disclosures.
- Assist with ad‑hoc projects supporting management initiatives.
- Lead corporate accounting training on financial reporting and SOX compliance.
- Lead the enterprise‑wide SOX compliance program, including annual SOX compliance planning and risk assessment.
- Provide guidance and best practices for control design, implementation, deficiency assessment, and remediation plans.
- Oversee SOX compliance reporting, status meetings, deficiency assessment, and remediation monitoring.
- Develop and implement controls related to new accounting standards, transactions, processes, and systems.
- Coordinate the process for service organization control reports.
The position could also be located in Newport News, VA.
Must Have- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (or equivalent in education, training and experience) and a minimum of 10 years of progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; OR Master’s degree and 8 years relevant experience.
- CPA certification or equivalent.
- Experience at a Big 4 accounting firm or a large publicly traded company.
- Expertise in US GAAP, SEC and SOX rules and regulations.
- Experience managing a team.
- Experience in government contracting and/or A&D or similar industry with long‑term construction‑type/production‑type contracts.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong project management, analytical, and critical‑thinking skills.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment.
- Master’s degree in accounting, finance or an MBA.
- Prior experience with Optro, SAP, Blackline, and/or Workiva Wdesk.
