Tax Senior - Indirect Tax - Sales and Use Lookback Review

At EY we build a better working world by helping clients shape their future. This role is part of EY’s Sales and Use Tax Lookback Review Center of Excellence (COE) and focuses on indirect tax regulatory changes, compliance, and reporting for public and private entities.

• Identify opportunities for tax optimization, credits, and refund recovery.
• Manage indirect tax strategies, compliance processes, remediation, controversies, and corrective filings.
• Support tax process reviews and technology transformation to enhance service offerings.
• Build and apply knowledge on multi‑state sales and use tax recovery projects for large, sophisticated organizations.
• Coordinate and mentor junior colleagues, define and execute deliverables, and track project status.
• Research client business operations, identify tax exemptions, potential over payments or risks, and communicate findings.
• Monitor current tax law changes and maintain credibility as a trusted advisor.
• Develop intelligent plans for tax recoveries, prepare, and defend refund claims.
• Supervise a motivated team, guaranteeing skill development and opportunities for growth.

• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or a related discipline.
• Minimum three years of professional experience in sales and use tax processes, concepts, and tools.
• CPA, state Bar, Institute for Professionals in Taxation, or CMI designation (achieved or partially achieved).
• Proven record of excellence in a professional services or tax organization.
• Technical writing and research experience in a tax context.
• Strong influencing skills and confidence to question existing processes.
• Willingness to travel and work in a hybrid environment.
• Expertise in tax legislation, legislation impact assessment, and indirect tax refund and recovery review.
• Proficiency in tax planning, optimization, audit quality, remediation techniques, and credit modeling.
• Knowledge of data quality, accounting principles, risk mitigation, and data analysis/interpretation.
• Ability to use data visualization and storytelling to communicate insights.
• Strong communication skills, emotional agility, and hybrid collaboration skills.
• Commercial acumen and experience leading teams.

• Experience supporting additional services (5‑10% of time).
• Experience assisting in RFP responses.
• Experience tracking resource plans and budgets.
• Experience maintaining reports for engagement economics.

• Competitive compensation: $81,700 – $135,000 (U.S. geographic range). Higher ranges for NY, Washington, CA (excluding Sacramento).
