Silverthorne Advisory Group is seeking a DoW Financial Reporting Specialist to join an exciting and growing opportunity supporting clients across the federal government and Defense sector. This role is responsible for advising agencies on financial management modernization, internal controls, and financial reporting transformation while supporting audit readiness, digital transformation, and compliance with federal financial management requirements. The ideal candidate possesses strong knowledge of Department of War financial statement preparation processes, systems, federal accounting standards, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements.
We are looking for candidates who understand departmental reporting, month-end close, quarter-end close, journal voucher processes, financial reporting data calls, eliminations, footnotes, financial reporting systems, and other DFAS related processes. This unique opportunity puts you in front of executive decision-makers to help shape and improve how the Department prepares and submits financial statements through process optimization, automation, data analytics, and modern financial management technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and optimize DoW financial statement reporting solutions using One Stream.
- Modernize financial statement preparation, consolidation, account reconciliations, variance analysis, and management reporting processes.
- Advise functional and engineering teams around the preparation of annual, quarterly, and monthly federal financial statements in accordance with FASAB standards and OMB Circular A-136.
- Advise functional and engineering teams on supporting schedules, footnotes, Management's Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), and Required Supplementary Information (RSI).
- Review financial data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal accounting policies and reporting requirements.
- Recommend process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency.
- Research and interpret federal accounting standards, regulations, and technical guidance to ensure compliance with evolving requirements.
- Assess One Stream products and solutions are in compliance with FASAB standards, OMB Circular A-136, FMFIA, FFMIA, the CFO Act, the DATA Act, and other applicable federal financial management guidance.
- Collaborate with finance, budget, accounting, program, and information technology teams to resolve financial reporting issues and improve business processes.
- Identify opportunities to streamline financial reporting activities through automation, standardization, and continuous process improvement.
- Develop standardized financial reporting models, dashboards, scorecards, and executive reporting capabilities.
- Leverage data analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, and business intelligence tools to enhance financial reporting and executive decision-making.
- Document financial reporting processes, policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Monitor changes in federal accounting standards and financial reporting requirements and advise stakeholders on implementation impacts. Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in management consulting, public accounting, or federal financial management.
- At least one (1) year of experience supporting DoW financial reporting.
- Strong knowledge of federal financial reporting, financial statement preparation, and financial statement consolidation processes.
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP, FASAB standards, and federal financial management regulations.
- Familiarity with OMB Circular A-123, FMFIA, FFMIA, CFO Act, DATA Act, and other federal financial management requirements.
- Experience conducting business process assessments and designing future-state financial processes.
- Ability to communicate complex financial and technical concepts to executive leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of financial reporting and ERP systems across the DoW (e.g., AFS, DDRS-B, DAI, DEAMS, NERP, GFEBS, etc.).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills.
- Experience preparing executive presentations, business cases, and strategic recommendations.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong project management, organizational, and client relationship management skills.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams consisting of finance, accounting, IT, and program management professionals.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint, and other business intelligence and reporting tools. Desired Skills
- Experience with One Stream Financial Close, Account Reconciliations, Planning, or Reporting modules.
- Knowledge of Intelligent Automation, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), or AI-enabled financial management solutions.
- Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) or Certified Defense Financial Manager (CDFM) preferred.
