This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), Inspections Division (IN), Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), Integrity Analysis and Support Staff (OPRI). This position(s) primary purpose, in a developmental capacity, is to serve as an analyst conducting research, applying analytical logic, and supporting the case management portfolio.

Applicants must meet the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of the announcement. If you are qualifying based on education or if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcripts with your application.

Applicants applying for the GS-09 must meet one of the following requirements:
  • A. Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

    You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
  • Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following:
    1) Monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of programs and operations.
    2) Researching regulations and precedents to help inspectors monitor, review, and coordinate investigative activity.
    3) Drafting briefing documents, decision papers, and other written communications as they relate to the activities and overall management of OPR.
  • B.

    Education:

    Have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree – or – two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
  • C. Combination of

    Education and Experience:

    A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18.

    Add the two percentages.
Applicants applying for the GS-11 must meet one of the following requirements:
  • A. Have at least one full year of specialized experience that is at least equivalent to work performed at the GS-09 grade level. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

    You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
  • Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following:
    1) Researching regulations and precedents to help inspectors monitor, review, and coordinate investigative activity.
    2) Providing recommendations to senior management on methods and procedures to support records, communications, directives, forms, investigative files, and documentation.
    3) Drafting revisions and additions for inclusion in DEA's formal directives system, i.e., the Agents Manual, Inspection Manual, Laboratory Manual, Administrative Manual, and Personnel Manual.
  • B.

    Education:

    Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree – or – three (3) full academic years of graduate level education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related.
  • C. Combination of

    Education and Experience:

    A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18.

    Add the two percentages.
