Duties

  • Serve as a naval records senior examiner to the Board for Correction of Naval Records.
  • Conduct preliminary reviews of proposed testimony and evidence for personal performance cases to determine relevance, legal sufficiency, and alignment with governing policies.
  • Perform in-depth legal research utilizing the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), federal court decisions, and courts of military review precedents to evaluate complex personnel issues.
  • Prepare comprehensive case summaries detailing factual background, legal interpretations, and analytical discussions to support adjudicative or administrative decision-making.
  • Draft formal denial correspondence notifying the applicant, legal counsel, and designated interested parties of the Board's adverse decisions, ensuring the inclusion of clear rationales for denial and all associated advisory opinions.
  • Attend and participate in oral hearings and executive sessions in an advisory capacity.

Requirements Conditions of employment

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-12) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience applying deep technical expertise in military records, personnel policies, regulations, and statutory laws to formulate records of proceedings to adjudicate cases.
  • Experience evaluating complex facts in military records, identify administrative discrepancies, and brief senior board members on found errors or injustices.
  • Experience applying analytical and technical expertise in writing to develop/deliver briefings, status reports, and final correspondence presented to senior leadership.
  • Experience exercising a high degree of independent judgment in interpreting and applying jurisdictional guidelines and procedures to all cases.
