Purpose & Scope
The Diabetes Education Program Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of clinical program performance and reports directly to the Patient Care Director under Patient Care Services. The program coordinator will assist the Patient Care Director with the oversight of department classes, accreditation, quality improvement and overall program growth. The program coordinator will also participate in direct patient care in both the class setting and one-on-one patient appointments.
This position requires knowledge of both department and hospital policies and procedures relevant to diabetes care. Interpretive skills, frequent interactive and consultative associations, are inherent in the position. The ability to retrieve, communicate or otherwise present information in a written, auditory or visual fashion is essential. The primary method to express or exchange ideas is through the spoken word.
Bachelor's degree in dietetics is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
ExperienceOne year of healthcare/medical direct patient care is preferred. Experience and knowledge on diabetes is required. Experience in teaching adults in small groups & one-on-one is required.
Certification/LicensureRegistered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration is required. Certified Diabetes Care Education Specialist (CDCES) is required. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Certification in area of clinical specialty, including diabetes and/or obesity management is preferred.
