Network Development Engineer, Network Fabric Engineering

Overview

Would you like to play a key role in driving the stability and sustainability of next‑generation IP networks? AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centres and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that keep the cloud running.

• Build, deploy, and scale Amazon networks that support AWS, customers, and other business units across multiple global data centres.
• Create network designs, services, and deployment procedures that solve for many requirements.
• Develop High Level Design and Low Level Design documents, influence technology roadmaps, construct and test solutions, and provide support to deployment and operations teams.
• Automate deployment processes to increase quality and velocity.
• Work closely with internal customers on designs and solutions, bringing them from concept to production.

• Work in a 24x7 on‑call rotation, with the ability to drive into the workplace for critical events or needs.
• Manage customers during problem resolution and operate efficiently under pressure.
• Sit at the computer during scheduled work hours with appropriate breaks while maintaining a high level of alertness and attention to detail.
• Travel to data centre or network sites and Amazon/customer offices as needed.

• Bachelor's degree or above in computer science or equivalent.
• 8+ years of IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience applying IP protocols as well as network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.
• 8+ years of experience with major internet routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, RSVP, ISIS) in a large enterprise environment.
• 8+ years working with major network operating systems such as Cisco IOS and/or Junos.
• 3+ years experience with Unix/Linux and scripting in Python, Perl, or shell.

• A Master’s in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience.
• Senior or Lead Engineer experience at other organizations.
• Expert‑level certifications (e.g., CCIE, JNCIE).
• Expert‑level scripting and/or automation skills in a network environment.
• Software development/programming skills.

Salary ranges (USD annually): USA, VA, Arlington – 159,100 – 215,300; USA, WA, Seattle – 159,100 – 215,300.
