About the Position
Marymount seeks a Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer (VP/CIO) to provide visionary, strategic, and operational leadership for the university’s technology services. The VP/CIO reports to the President and leads the planning and execution of enterprise-wide IT initiatives that enhance the student experience, support innovative teaching and research, ensure cybersecurity and data privacy, and optimize administrative operations.
The VP/CIO serves as a key member of the President’s Cabinet, advising university leadership on emerging technology trends—such as artificial intelligence, digital learning ecosystems, cloud-first strategies, data governance, and sustainable IT practices—and aligning IT strategy with institutional priorities, including student success, affordability, and operational excellence.
This role is accountable for designing, integrating, and supporting a modern, secure, and resilient digital infrastructure, including enterprise applications, instructional technologies, wired and wireless networks, telecommunications, on-premises and cloud-based computing, and help desk operations.
Major Duties and Responsibilities- Lead development and execution of a future-ready IT strategy that enables innovation, sustainability, and institutional effectiveness across all academic, administrative, and research areas.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, agility, digital equity, and user-centric service delivery throughout the Information Technology Services (ITS) organization.
- Evaluate and adopt transformative technologies, including artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and automated business practices, to enhance learning, advising, research, and decision-making.
- Ensure robust cybersecurity governance, regulatory compliance (e.g., GLBA, FERPA, HIPAA, NIST 800-171), and proactive risk management, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of university data and systems.
- Provide leadership in data governance, institutional analytics, and business intelligence to enable data-informed and equitable decision-making at all levels of the institution.
- Direct the management and optimization of enterprise systems, including Workday for HR, finance, and student applications, Canvas as a learning management system, digital identity and access controls, and the Microsoft 365 application platform.
- Oversee the campus network and telecommunications infrastructure, including next-generation wireless deployments (e.g., Wi‑Fi 6E/7), cloud-based communication systems, Internet of Things (IoT) integrations, and campus safety/security technologies (e.g., cameras, card readers, emergency notification systems).
- Support the university’s mission by expanding digital access, online learning environments, and hybrid teaching tools to meet evolving student, faculty, and workforce development needs.
- Collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to assess needs, identify opportunities, and prioritize IT projects through transparent governance and advisory structures (e.g., IT Advisory Council and other shared governance bodies).
- Provide oversight of ITS financial operations, including budget development, capital planning, procurement, contract negotiation, and sustainable vendor relationship management with a focus on cost efficiency and long-term value.
- Recruit, retain, and develop high-performing ITS staff through professional development, coaching, and a culture of accountability, equity, innovation, and well-being.
- Serve as a university spokesperson and advocate on IT-related matters to internal and external stakeholders, including trustees, accreditors, alumni, donors, and industry partners.
- Represent the university in relevant professional associations and consortia to benchmark practices, influence higher education technology standards, and build collaborative partnerships across the sector.
