A critical opportunity is available for a Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN) Technician/Engineer supporting the AFNCR IT Services program within the NMCC. This role operates in a high-pressure, mission‑critical environment supporting senior defense leadership where system availability is essential. The selected candidate will serve as a subject matter expert responsible for the engineering, maintenance, and continuous operation of the DRSN and associated telecommunications systems across the National Capital Region (NCR).

- Maintain and support the Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN) and associated subsystems to ensure continuous 24/7 operations.
- Perform COMSEC responsibilities, including operation and maintenance of cryptographic devices and configurations.
- Support switch operation and administration, including:
- Scheduled and unscheduled maintenance
- Fault isolation and troubleshooting
- Service restoration activities
- Conduct network engineering and planning, including circuit installations, modifications, and deactivations.
- Provide support for network expansion and telecommunications modernization efforts.
- Deliver technical and operational support to end users.
- Diagnose and resolve issues impacting hardware, software, and communication circuits (including commercial and government‑furnished systems).
- Provide outage notifications, restoration actions, and estimated restoration timelines.
- Monitor circuit status and ensure availability through coordination with other operational work centers.
- Perform continuous monitoring, reporting, and status updates.
- Execute installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT communications equipment.
- Support 24/7 operations, including shift work, overnight schedules, and on‑call or standby rotations.
- Perform additional duties as required to meet mission and operational needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent combination of experience, training, and certifications).
- Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience in telecommunications, networking, or related field.
- Active DoD TS/SCI security clearance (required).
- Active Security+ CE certification (DoD 8570 IAT Level II compliant).
- Hands‑on experience with:
- IT communications equipment installation
- Testing and troubleshooting
- Circuit monitoring and network operations
- Ability to work in a high‑tempo, mission‑critical environment.
- Willingness to support rotating shifts, overnight schedules, and 24/7 operations coverage.
- Direct experience supporting the Defense Red Switch Network (DRSN) in a command center environment.
- Strong background in one or more of the following:
- Cryptographic Systems
- Tech Control (Telecommunications Control)
- C4I Systems
- Nuclear Command and Control (NC2)
- Experience developing and executing:
- Communications contingency plans
- Restoration and exercise plans
- Expertise in:
- Fault isolation and circuit restoration
- Trend analysis and performance monitoring
- Quality control testing and status reporting
- Experience using diagnostic/testing equipment such as:
- Tone generators
- VoIP testers
- Oscilloscopes
- Bit Error Rate Testers (BERT)
- Multimeters
- Knowledge of Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS).
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting, component replacement, and system‑level diagnostics.
The general salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $.
