At GDIT, our people make the difference. As a Senior Enterprise Performance Management Systems Engineer, you will help ensure today's operations remain secure while enabling a smarter tomorrow. We are seeking a highly motivated Enterprise Performance Engineer and Net Scout Administrator to support the ETM-NG program at the Pentagon. This position is responsible for administering, expanding, optimizing, and operating the Net Scout performance monitoring platform across multiple security domains.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor to operations teams and government stakeholders by converting network performance data into actionable insights. Key responsibilities include dashboard development, service performance monitoring, KPI definition, executive reporting, troubleshooting complex performance issues, and supporting the continued deployment of enterprise observability capabilities.
This role requires close collaboration with Network Operations, Service Management, Cybersecurity, and Government leadership to enhance visibility into network health, application performance, user experience, and mission-critical services. Strong technical expertise and the ability to communicate clearly with non-technical audiences are essential.
How an EMS Engineer will make an impact:
- Administer, maintain, and optimize Net Scout nGeniusONE, nGeniusPULSE, Infini Stream, and associated performance monitoring infrastructure.
- Provide day-to-day administration of Red Hat-based Linux distributions (CentOS, RHEL, Oracle Linux). Troubleshoot system-level issues, analyze OS logs, and monitor disk space, CPU, and memory utilization.
- Utilize Bash/Shell scripting to automate routine administrative tasks and system backups.
- Plan and execute server migrations and operating system upgrades. Assist in transitioning legacy enterprise systems from CentOS 7 to Oracle Linux 9 while ensuring minimal downtime.
- Perform pre-migration compatibility assessments on existing configurations, libraries, and application dependencies.
- Validate post-migration system integrity, user permissions, and service functionalities.
- Support deployment and expansion of enterprise monitoring capabilities across multiple network enclaves.
- Configure service monitors, service dashboards, alerting thresholds, and reporting capabilities.
- Ensure platform availability, data integrity, and monitor coverage of critical enterprise services.
- Develop operational dashboards and service health views supporting enterprise network operations.
- Establish and maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), service level metrics, and performance baselines.
- Analyze network traffic patterns, latency, packet loss, retransmissions, application response times, and user experience metrics.
- Identify trends and proactively recommend improvements to increase service reliability and operational effectiveness.
- Produce daily, weekly, and monthly service performance reports for Government leadership.
- Translate complex technical findings into concise operational impacts, risks, and recommendations.
- Participate in customer briefings and performance review meetings.
- Own and continuously improve recurring operational performance briefings, including dashboard interpretation, trend narratives, and mission impact summaries.
- Utilize Net Scout packet level and service level data to investigate performance degradations and service disruptions.
- Collaborate with Network Operations, Systems Administration, Cybersecurity, and Service Desk teams during incident response activities.
- Provide data driven recommendations for problem resolution and service restoration.
- Correlate Net Scout findings with Service Now incidents, problems, and changes to improve event context, escalation quality, and service restoration outcomes.
