Summary

Valida Tek is seeking a Cable Technician to support a large telecommunications and networking infrastructure in a secured DoD environment. The role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing fiber optic and cabling systems to ensure connectivity and performance. Responsibilities include adhering to applicable rules, documenting installations and repairs, and performing routine maintenance and emergency repairs as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and repair copper and fiber optic cabling systems within DoD environments.
  • Perform routine maintenance and support for telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.
  • Utilize network testers, cable certifiers, OTDRs, and power meters to validate cabling performance and resolve issues.
  • Install, maintain, and repair voice, data, and telecommunications systems.
  • Conduct cable tracing, identification, and removal of abandoned cabling while ensuring safety standards.
  • Maintain organized cable pathways, racks, and telecommunications spaces in accordance with BICSI standards.
  • Support infrastructure upgrades, moves, adds, and changes (MACs) for enterprise telecommunications systems.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot network connectivity and cabling-related problems.
  • Operate power tools, ladders, and related equipment to complete installation and maintenance activities.
  • Document work performed, test results, and infrastructure changes accurately.
  • Provide responsive customer support and communicate effectively with stakeholders, leadership, and technical teams.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of related telecommunications experience as a Cable Technician in a DoD IT environment.
  • Familiarity with BICSI rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Experience with network cabling test equipment including network testers, copper cable testers, fiber OTDRs, and fiber power meters.
  • Experience designing, administering, and maintaining a telecommunications and network cabling infrastructure.
  • Experience dressing, terminating, and testing cables and components.
  • Ability to work with power tools and ladders.
  • Experience testing, locating, installing, and repairing cabling infrastructure for trouble calls and routine maintenance.
  • Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing voice and data communications systems.
  • Experience identifying, tracking, and removing abandoned cable and keeping cables neatly tied and bundled with safety in mind.
  • Related certifications for Fiber Optic Cable and CAT6 Cable Installation.
  • Strong customer support and communication skills with leadership and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy.
  • BCISCI Installer (Copper and/or Fiber) certification.
  • Active secret clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience.

Salary Disclosure

Actual salary will be based on factors including experience, geographic location, internal equity, education, and certifications. The upper end of the range may be reserved for individuals with tenure, seniority, and proven performance beyond the minimum requirements.
