The Data Visualization Specialist designs, develops, and maintains data visualizations, dashboards, reports, presentations, and other analytical products that enable the Office of Head Start (OHS) to make informed, data-driven decisions. This position transforms complex quantitative and qualitative data into clear, accessible, and actionable visual products that support grants management, program oversight, operational performance, executive decision-making, and customer service initiatives. The Data Visualization Specialist collaborates with Federal staff, data engineers, analysts, and program personnel to communicate complex information through intuitive visualizations that improve understanding, transparency, and organizational effectiveness.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, scorecards, and interactive visualizations supporting OHS operations.
  • Develop executive presentations and analytical visual products that communicate complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Transform quantitative and qualitative data into meaningful visual stories that support operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Data Analysts, and Federal stakeholders to define visualization requirements and reporting priorities.
  • Develop recurring management reports supporting grants management, workflow tracking, performance monitoring, and program oversight.
  • Design visualizations supporting Smart Flow, HSES, AMS, Grant Solutions, and other Federal information systems.
  • Develop geospatial maps and location-based visualizations supporting program oversight and service area analysis.
  • Ensure all visual products comply with Federal accessibility standards and Section 508 requirements where applicable.
  • Support development of infographics, briefing materials, training materials, and communication products.
  • Assist with ad hoc reporting requests from OHS leadership and Regional Offices.
  • Develop visualization standards, templates, and style guides promoting consistency across reporting products.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to improve user experience and ensure visualization products meet business needs.
  • Support continuous improvement of reporting processes through automation and visualization best practices.
  • Maintain documentation supporting dashboards, reports, data sources, and visualization methodologies.
  • Ensure visualization products accurately represent underlying data and support sound decision-making.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of relevant post-baccalaureate professional experience directly related to the task activities.
  • Strong design skills and visualization principles.
  • Experience translating complex data into visual stories.
  • Accessibility standards knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting the Office of Head Start (OHS) or Administration for Children and Families (ACF).
  • Experience supporting Federal grants management reporting and executive dashboards.
  • Experience with Smartsheet, HSES, Grant Solutions, and AMS.
  • Experience with Tableau, Power BI, ArcGIS, GIS, Section 508 accessibility, and executive presentation development.
Education and Experience:

At least a Bachelor's in Data Visualization, Information Design, Data Science, or related field from an accredited university or college.
