Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
General Summary
This position is responsible for installation and maintenance of injection molding production machinery such as horizontal injection molding machines, 3‑axis robots, automated cells, material loaders, material dryers, water chillers, temperature control units, hot runner controllers, end‑of‑arm tooling, etc. The role includes maintaining equipment in good working condition, executing planned and corrective maintenance, analyzing custom production machinery for improvement, designing necessary custom parts, and working with the Injection Molding Department to design the most efficient production layout in the new facility.
Additionally, the role handles tooling changes, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs of injection molding tooling.
- Performs preventive maintenance as scheduled following the proper lock‑out tag‑out procedures.
- Performs corrective or reactive maintenance when a line is down.
- Assists with changeovers of the machines as scheduled to accommodate the production schedule.
- Adjusts the machines as necessary to maintain productivity.
- Leads and supports continuous improvement projects.
- Supports new employees in training on machinery usage, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Keeps spare parts and maintenance workbench and tool carts in order, clean and safe.
- Supports the safety committee to ensure guidelines and regulations are followed.
- Responsible for machine safety and proper operation.
- Assists during startup and shutdown procedures in production.
- Fill out proper documentation when performing adjustments, preventive or reactive maintenance.
- Manage waste disposal and proper documentation.
- Assist with facilities maintenance as needed.
- Perform duties consistently with company core values and purpose.
- Attend scheduled meetings, missing no more than 10% annually.
- Clock in and out for work and lunch with no more than 1 error per month.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Follow all OSHA and other safety guidelines.
- Actively demonstrate teamwork at all times.
- Manage job stress, including meeting deadlines.
- Adhere to company safety standards, preventing serious injury within the prior 12‑month period.
- Follow other policies and procedures to avoid verbal or written warnings during the evaluation period.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience working in a plastic transformation process such as injection molding, extrusion, or blow molding, preferably with machinery brands such as ARBURG, Wittmann, and SEPRO.
- At least 2 years of experience repairing and maintaining injection molding machinery, tooling, and robotic automation systems in a production environment.
- Excellent understanding of predictive and preventative maintenance processes.
- Mechanical skills needed for maintenance, with proven experience in mechanical, electrical, and electronic troubleshooting techniques.
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles and concepts.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions from electronic and mechanical instruction books, including electric, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 implementation or maintenance of equipment and facilities.
- Fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.
- Skilled in time management and multi‑tasking.
- Strong customer problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to learn and perform primary functions of positions within the department.
- Ability to manage stress.
- Physical demands include walking, bending, pushing, pulling, sitting for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing tasks that occupy 100% of time moving in the production area.
- Vision and hearing within or correctable to normal range.
- Must work from the corporate office and be on time during regular business hours, with availability for evening or weekend work as needed.
- Exposure to production equipment at various times; noise level moderate.
Salary: $23.00–$25.00 per hour, depending on experience. The position will train on first shift (6:00 am–2:30 pm) for the first few weeks as required.
