Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown/Telemetry unit position requiring dysrhythmia and chest tube management skills with an active VA or Compact RN license.

Details
  • Work in the Cardiovascular Stepdown/Telemetry unit caring for post-ICU cardiac surgery patients
  • Patient ratio of 1:4
  • Rotating 4x12 schedule with day (7:00-19:00) and night (19:00-7:00) shifts
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating required in rotation with client staff per facility policy
  • On-call may be required for certain areas such as OT, IR, and Cath Lab within 30 miles/30 minutes of campus
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • 13-week assignment length
Requirements
  • Active VA or Compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Trauma Level II experience required, Trauma Level I preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Charge experience preferred
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Experience managing chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur Evac) required
  • Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management required
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring (on-unit and remote) required
  • Experience with CVSD patient population required
  • Skills in cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, central/peripheral line care, and blood product administration required
  • Cardiac and vasoactive drip titration preferred
Additional Information
  • Provide nursing care to cardiac surgery patients transitioning from ICU on a stepdown/telemetry unit
  • Responsibilities include respiratory management, wound care, insulin protocols, and post cardiac catheterization/angiogram care
  • Must complete an Epic Clin Doc training class (Accelerated or 2-Day) based on recent Epic experience
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31), with exemptions subject to facility approval
  • COVID vaccination or approved exemption required
  • Facility is a smoke/nicotine-free campus
  • Some holiday coverage expected during the assignment
  • Requests for time off should be minimal and submitted prior to assignment start, with approval at manager's discretion
  • Previous VHC staff members must wait one year before returning as a traveler
  • First-time travelers are not preferred for this position
