Research Scientist
Position Summary
Senior Economist – American Institutes for Research. Works primarily from home but reports to the headquarters in Arlington, VA.
LocationRemote with periodic travel to headquarters and client sites.
Responsibilities- Develop conceptual frameworks and experimental designs that guide research projects.
- Manage and analyze large‑scale data files for policy research.
- Serve as client contact for analytical and statistical expertise.
- Conduct policy analysis, develop case studies, and perform site visits.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to government clients.
- Lead business development activities for existing and prospective clients.
- Design work assignments in accordance with project scope and assume responsibility for the quality of work assigned to others.
- Identify new opportunities through environmental scans.
Little national and international travel is required. Total travel is limited to no more than 60 days per year or 5 days per trip.
Qualifications and Experience- PhD in Economics, Public Policy, or a related social science field.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in analytical or statistical research.
- Proficiency in STATA and experience analyzing large‑scale data sets.
- Experience in designing experiments and quasi‑experiments.
- Strong quantitative research skills on policy‑relevant topics using advanced methods such as fixed effects, regression discontinuity, or instrumental variable techniques.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic research environment.
Annual salary range: $150,281 to $171,915.
