As a valued member of our Food and Beverage dining outlets, Server Assistants play a vital role in delivering a seamless and elevated dining experience for our members and guests by supporting both the front-of-house team and service operations. This hybrid position combines responsibilities traditionally assigned to a Host, Busser, and Food Runner, requiring flexibility, teamwork, and exceptional attention to detail.
As a key point of contact throughout the guest's dining experience, the Server Assistant ensures that all touchpoints - from arrival to departure - reflect the high standards of our private club.
Responsibilities
Guest Reception & Host Duties
- Greet and welcome members and guests with a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Escort guests to their tables, presenting appropriate menus based on the dining area.
- Maintain and manage the reservation system throughout service, accommodating walk-ins and special requests.
- Communicate with serving staff and managers regarding table availability, large parties, and special requests to ensure seamless service.
- Answer phone calls, confirm reservations, and provide accurate information about dining options and club events.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization at the host stand and entry areas.
- Ensure dining areas are clean, properly set, and ready for service.
- Assist with water and beverage refills, bread service, or other items as needed.
- Clear, reset, and sanitize tables efficiently between courses and after guest departure, ensuring cleanliness throughout service.
- Assist with polishing and restocking silverware, glassware, and dishware as needed.
- Deliver food orders from the kitchen to guests' tables quickly and accurately, based on dining outlet table and seat numbers.
- Verify that orders are accurate, complete, and properly prepared, with safe handling (e.g., proper temperature).
- Ensure proper placement of dishes, announcing items, special orders, and allergy considerations where appropriate.
- Assist servers by restocking and organizing mise en place, including ramekins, condiments, and utensils.
- Communicate with kitchen and service staff to coordinate food flow efficiently.
- Maintain knowledge of all menu items and preparation methods.
- Complete daily checklists to ensure all pre-shift and post-shift duties are fulfilled and the operation is set and ready for service.
- Ensure work spaces are clean, organized, and fully stocked.
- Collaborate closely with servers, bartenders, kitchen staff, and management to provide a seamless dining experience.
- Handle guest inquiries, special requests, and minor concerns with attentiveness and care; promptly inform management as needed.
- Uphold cleanliness and safety standards throughout all service areas.
- Attend training sessions and staff meetings, including pre-shift (line-up) briefings, as required.
- Take direction and adapt to the evolving needs of the dining room.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified, or a similar combination of education and experience.
- High caliber of professionalism and presentation, in line with private club standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a team-first mindset.
- Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Working knowledge of food safety and hygiene best practices.
- Proven record of delivering excellent customer service.
- Strong understanding of overall kitchen and restaurant operations.
- Excellent communication, organization, attention to detail, and time management skills.
- Comfort serving a private membership clientele, including regular interaction with the same individuals and families.
- Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to anticipate needs.
- Flexible schedule, including availability on evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
- Ability and stamina to carry heavy trays, stand for long periods, and lift up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to work in both hot and cold conditions, indoors and outdoors, and tolerate exposure to dust, fumes, and gases.
- Must be able to work in close proximity to moving machinery.
- Independent mobility required.
