Position SummaryThe DSD Field Sales Representative owns and delivers sales for their overall territory by developing relationships with Store Managers and other retail personnel to achieve directed short‑ and long‑term performance objectives. This is achieved with a focus on delivering the overall value of retail (VOR) to include sales, displays, new items and core distribution. Activities center on coverage of Nestlé items, including systemic problem solving related to out‑of‑stocks, new item speed to shelf, share of shelf, price compliance, and promotion selling.
The position covers a West Los Angeles, CA territory that stretches from Malibu down to Long Beach. The candidate should live in an area that accommodates this type of daily commute.
This role will be responsible for selling Nestlé Premium Waters and Ready‑To‑Drink products as part of a DSD model. Regular long‑distance driving is expected to visit client sites, attend meetings, and support field activities. Physical demands include lifting and carrying up to 55 lbs, pushing, pulling, and bending to set up displays and move carts, and standing and walking during store visits, trade shows, and field work.
Responsibilities- Partner with distributors, collaborating and ensuring product knowledge through in‑person and phone communication.
- Sell incremental volume for displays and obtain maximum support for promoted products.
- Sell promotional surveys for displays.
- Sell additional products based on opportunities observed.
- Collaborate with targeted store‑level/district‑level retail operations personnel to create and execute business reviews that drive volume.
- Lead the expenditure of financial resources in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Ensure compliance with pricing guidelines at the retail level.
- Report competitive price changes and promotional support and resolve competitive pricing issues.
- Identify and correct voids and ensure new items are available.
- Merchandise products to achieve schematic compliance, pack out shelves, rotate products, handle unsellable product, and resolve systemic problems related to out‑of‑stocks and voids.
- Develop and maintain proper relations with department/store‑level personnel within the territory to maximize sales results.
- Communicate market insights from the retail level to management.
- High School Diploma or GED required;
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Psychology, or a related field preferred. - 2+ years of retail sales, merchandising, or retail management experience with CPG products preferred (not required).
- Valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Excellent customer service, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Strong communication (oral and written), selling, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and other POS systems.
- Ability to analyze financial, inventory, retail conditions, and other data to utilize appropriate selling techniques.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet tight deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the territory; overnight travel may be required.
