Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT) is seeking an Alternate Facility Security Officer (AFSO) to join its Arlington, VA team.

Location and Compensation

  • Compensation: $74,000 – $116,000 per year
Clearance & Location Requirements
  • All applicants must currently possess an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance.
  • This is an on‑site position requiring at least 5 days per week in the Arlington office.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the Security Information Management System (SIMS), maintaining accurate electronic security records, cleared personnel rosters, and facility assets.
  • Track, audit, and account for the lifecycle of all classified holdings, hardware, and media from receipt through destruction or final dispatch.
  • Use SIMS reporting features to conduct internal audits, identify compliance trends, and prepare data for annual DCSA assessments.
  • Direct and execute all classified shipping and receiving operations, ensuring strict compliance with NISPOM, DCSA, and government transport regulations.
  • Inspect, log, and secure incoming classified hardware, equipment, and documentation into the SIMS registry.
  • Coordinate secure outbound transportation logistics, including proper wrapping, labeling, and preparation of classified material for cleared couriers.
  • Maintain strict physical accountability of classified spaces via monthly above‑ceiling and bag inspections, container checks, and emergency procedures.
  • Manage changes for GSA‑approved containers and train personnel on secure handling and stowage protocols.
  • Act as the designated backup to the resident FSO, fully authorized to manage facility operations and handle security incidents in their absence.
  • Oversee the review, submission, processing, and maintenance of personnel security applications (SF‑86s) via NBIS.
  • Manage subject records within the Defense Information System for Security (DISS) for VA and other IDT CAGE codes.
  • Monitor clearance tracks and provide routine status updates to employees, Program Leads, the FSO, and the CSO.
  • Supervise the processing and verification of inbound and outbound Visit Authorization Requests (VARs).
  • Administer physical access control systems and authorization tools (Sys Link, MyKastle, DMP panels) for cleared personnel and visitors entering DoD classified areas.
  • Participate in bi‑annual self‑inspections using the DCSA handbook and assist with corrective actions to findings.
  • Provide escort functions related to classified facility operations and conduct employee training on open/close procedures for combination locks and GSA containers.
Qualifications & Knowledge
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent full‑time professional experience.
  • At least 3 years of full‑time professional experience in a security position for the government or a government contractor (e.g., FSO, Assistant FSO, ISSM, ISSO, Security Officer).
  • Working knowledge of SIMS, DISS, NISS, NBIS, STEPP, and e‑APP systems.
  • Understanding of Risk Management versus compliance requirements to enable mission success.
  • Attention to detail in record‑keeping and interactions with government representatives.
  • Working knowledge of security manuals, directives, and Executive Orders (32 CFR 117, NISPOM, DAAPM).
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time as needed.
