ROOFER MECHANIC I; full-time, 260-day, graded M-8 position with the Maintenance Office, Plant Operations, Second shift.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS: Performs semiskilled level maintenance, repair, and construction tasks in the glazing and roofing trade; attends formal courses or performs on-the-job training tasks equivalent to apprenticeship training; reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, technical instructions, and manuals.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Completion of tenth grade (preferably completion of high school), including some courses in industrial arts and/or shop mechanics, supplemented by training equivalent to an apprenticeship in the trade.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid driver’s license;
NOTE:
All APS employees authorized to drive APS vehicles are subject to either Omnibus Transportation Act drug and alcohol testing procedures (if required to possess a CDL) or the Arlington Public Schools Alcohol and Drug testing procedures (if CDL is not required).
PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES: Possession of the strength and dexterity and fine and gross motor skills required to perform all essential functions, including lifting and carrying heavy objects; balancing self, materials, and tools on high and/or slanted surfaces; assembling and disassembling scaffolds and equipment; and operating or utilizing all tools, equipment, and vehicles. Work requires significant time spent standing, bending, stooping, working in tiring positions, and working from ladders or scaffolds.
HAZARDS/UNUSUAL DEMANDS: Work involves working indoors and outdoors under a wide range of climatic conditions. Exposure to harmful fumes and sprays requires use of safety goggles, masks, gloves, and proper ventilation. Work is performed on ladders, scaffolds, and rising platforms to a height of 40 feet.
