Intervention Counselor
Intervention Counselors provide school-based mental health services to students who require either targeted or intensive assistance in building behavioral and/or social emotional skills. Intervention Counselors run small-groups and provide individual services using evidence-and-research based programs. Intervention Counselors may lead and support crisis response teams in their buildings as well as schools across the district. They are trained in and use restorative practices, lead suicide prevention efforts, and serve as a key resource for behavioral and social emotional programming as part of a multi-tiered system of support.
Persons in this role will not carry a specific student caseload but will provide services based on student needs identified by academic, attendance, disciplinary, and other data sources. Intervention Counselors use strong organizational and analytical skills to track and monitor data regarding the effectiveness of the service as they provide.
This position is a 10-month 1.0 FTE.
Qualifications- Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure with an endorsement in School Counseling.
- At least three years of school counseling experience strongly recommended
- Specific training and/or practice in the areas of mental health and/or behavioral services
- Specific training and/or practice in the area of restorative practices and or conflict resolutions strongly preferred
- Knowledge and experience and delivering evidence and research based curricular to small groups and individuals
- Demonstrated ability to compile data, make decisions based upon data, and measure effectiveness of interventions
- Ability to use, leverage, and integrate technology
- Ability to communicate and work effectively with principal, staff and parents.
- Ability and willingness to work as a team member with special education and general education staff.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to compromise.
- Good initiative, flexibility, dependability and organizational skills.
- Strong sense of professionalism.
- Strong classroom management skills.
Salary will be based on the FY 2026-27 salary schedule
