Position: Device Software Engineer, Amazon Leo Government

Overview

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

We are breaking new ground with every device we design, from custom silicon to secure software, to enable innovative satellite and ground systems. Be part of a team that pushes the boundaries of satellite communications technology to make global connectivity a reality.

As a Device Software Development Engineer on the Amazon Leo Government (ALG) team, you will design and develop embedded software for Amazon Leo’s satellite and ground systems. You’ll work on fault‑tolerant, real‑time platforms, collaborating closely with hardware, systems, and product teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high‑performance solutions.

This is a unique opportunity to shape the next generation of space‑based communication systems with minimal legacy constraints. Your work will directly support critical government initiatives, enabling secure and high‑performance communication systems for U.S. and allied missions.

Location

This role can sit in either Northridge, El Segundo, or Arlington with U.S. relocation benefits offered. On‑site work is required 5 days a week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and optimize embedded software for Amazon Leo’s satellite and ground terminal systems, focusing on fault‑tolerant, real‑time platforms.
  • Leverage modern application frameworks for Embedded Linux and RTOS platforms to develop scalable, modular, and high‑performance software.
  • Implement and integrate software for data processing, device control, and networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP).
  • Debug and resolve complex hardware‑software integration issues using tools like logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless hardware‑software interaction and system reliability.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct design reviews, and uphold high software quality standards.
Export Control Requirements

This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. Citizen in order to comply with U.S. government‑imposed requirements related to the nature of the work and/or where it will be performed.
