About the Role

AWS Security’s Security Communications (Sec Comms) team builds and operates platforms, tools, and systems that enable Amazon’s security organization to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders  team supports security events, ongoing security programs, vulnerability communications, and strategic initiatives across multiple Amazon business units and AWS services. We create engineering products that connect security findings, remediation owners, and people responsible for keeping Amazon and its customers safe.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer II (SDE II, Level
5) to design, develop, and operate software systems that power security communications workflows, automation, and integrations  role involves engineering rigor on ambiguous problems, a focus on customer outcomes, and collaboration with security engineers, program managers, and communications professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver software features and improvements across the full lifecycle, including scoping, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Translate customer and stakeholder needs into well‑designed, maintainable software solutions.
  • Design cohesive implementations for difficult problems with visible risks or roadblocks, bringing clarity to ambiguous requirements.
  • Balance constraints across new feature development, technical debt, and operational reliability, favoring sustainable solutions over short‑term workarounds.
  • Produce high‑quality, well‑tested, documented code that adheres to the Amazon Code Bar and is maintainable by teammates.
  • Own and operate production services with alarms, telemetry, runbooks, and on‑call response.
  • Identify and resolve root causes of operational issues and improve operational processes, automation, and tooling.
  • Work closely with security engineers, program managers, communications leads, and partner teams to understand business value.
  • Operate across team and organizational boundaries, collaborating effectively with adjacent teams.
  • Balance customer requirements with team requirements, making tradeoffs between feature development and operational work.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively about work in progress, technical decisions, blockers, and scope changes.
  • Actively mentor team members, providing constructive code‑review feedback and training new hires.
  • Document software architecture and operations, keeping documentation current.
  • Seek and incorporate feedback to raise engineering standards, and evaluate industry innovations that improve outcomes.
Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience (non‑internship).
  • 2+ years of design or architecture experience for new and existing systems.
  • 1+ year of software development engineering or related role.
  • 1+ year of designing and developing large‑scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded, embedded or distributed software using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
  • 1+ year of object‑oriented design experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
  • Experience contributing to architecture and design of new and current systems.
  • Knowledge of machine learning and large‑language‑model fundamentals.
  • Experience architecting/operating solutions built on AWS.
  • Familiarity with security domains such as incident response, vulnerability management, security operations, or coordinated disclosure.
