Overview

System Development Engineer II, DBS Relational ADC — Job :  — Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role involves building massively scalable distributed systems and supporting AWS services such as RDS and Aurora. The engineer will work with AWS customers to address needs across a full suite of services, dive into technical issues, and improve the customer experience. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, have strong Linux and networking fundamentals, enjoy coding, and think big to deploy solutions at scale.

  • Design, implement, and deploy software components and features, solving difficult problems and generating positive feedback.
  • Apply appropriate design approaches and contribute to architectural decisions.
  • Work independently and with a team to deliver software successfully.
  • Ensure code quality, security, testability, maintainability, and low-defect development; earn team trust.
  • Provide timely and constructive code reviews for changes submitted by others.
  • Focus on operational excellence, identify problems, and propose improvements to team software and processes.
  • Enhance development and testing processes within the team.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships, engage in constructive dialogue to resolve disagreements.
  • Ability to train new teammates on customers, software functionality, construction, testing, operations, and how it fits into the larger system.

A day in the life:
Engineers in this role will work on automation, development, and operations to support AWS machine learning services for US government customers in an agile environment, attending daily standups and collaborating with teammates; they will tackle scale challenges and solve unique technical problems for U.S. Intelligence Community and Defense agencies.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional).
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 1+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
  • 3+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering.
  • Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (networking, storage, operating systems).
  • Experience programming in at least one modern language (C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, Power Shell, Ruby).
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of TS/SCI with Polygraph.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Power Shell (preferred), Python, Ruby, or Java.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.

Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Compensation includes sign-on payments and RSUs and is determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. Benefits include health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, life and AD&D where applicable, and optional plans), 401(k) matching, paid time off, parental leave, and more.
