ABOUTTHE ROLE
Amrize Armstrong/Vernon, operating in the Okanagan Valley is currently seeking applications for an experienced full‑time seasonal Skid‑Steer Operator for the grade crew. As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you will maintain the operation of the equipment on a daily basis. Reporting to the Asphalt or Base Foreperson, the Heavy Equipment Operator will be required to inspect, maintain and operate the piece of equipment you operate.
We currently employ approximately 25 staff, servicing municipal, commercial, residential and provincial asphalt paving markets. Amrize Armstrong/Vernon is a Union company that offers employee benefits and competitive wages starting at $30‑33/hr subject to the qualifications and experience. These positions are based out of our Armstrong location and work sites are throughout the Okanagan.
WHATYOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
- Conduct pre‑operation inspections to ensure equipment is in proper working condition, reporting any defects or malfunctions.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
- Follow project plans, blueprints, and specifications to accurately and efficiently complete assigned tasks.
- Excavate, grade, and level construction sites, roadways, and other areas using heavy equipment to prepare for construction activities.
- Load and unload materials, debris, or equipment using appropriate machinery, ensuring proper weight distribution and safety protocols.
- Operate equipment with precision and control, adhering to safety guidelines and regulations to minimize accidents and damage.
- Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate work schedules and ensure smooth project execution.
- Monitor and assess environmental conditions and terrain to adjust equipment operation as necessary to maintain safety and productivity.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including equipment usage, fuel consumption, and work performed.
- Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Required
Work Experience:
Extensive knowledge and experience operating various types of heavy machinery, with a strong understanding of their functions and capabilities.
Additional Requirements:
- Able to work in a fast‑paced, high‑production environment.
- Sound understanding of safety protocols and regulations related to heavy equipment operation, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual labor and operate heavy machinery for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues, make minor repairs or report major malfunctions.
