Position: Community Interpreting Instructor
Department: English Language Learning
Location: Arnold/Main Campus, Arundel Mills
Work type: Hourly and Temporary, Part‑Time Faculty
Salary: $50 per class meeting hour
The English Language Learning program is seeking part‑time instructors to teach in our Community Interpreter Certificate program. We are currently seeking instructors to teach evening classes in Arnold, or Hanover, MD. Candidates invited for an interview will be asked to give a short teaching demonstration. Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstructors will teach WLS-325 and WLS-326 (Foundations of Community Interpreting Parts 1 &
2). In addition to teaching, instructors are responsible for:
- Assessing and recording student progress and attendance
- Meeting required deadlines for submitting grades and other administrative tasks
- Participating in department professional learning events
- Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred)
- Language proficiency in at least two languages (ACTFL Advanced High or above, or equivalent)
- 40‑hour community interpreter Train the Trainer course, to be completed before or prior to June 30 (department funds available to cover the cost)
- Professional simultaneous and/or sequential interpreting experience
- Adult education or teaching experience in both face‑to‑face and online formats

Work Mode and Schedule- This position requires some regular in‑person presence on campus or at alternative locations, depending on business needs of the office.
