Position Summary

The Health Sciences (HS) Academic Tutor is responsible for providing tutoring and/or coaching for students enrolled in a SHS health program of study who need assistance with content areas that are part of their program of study, but not related specifically to the discipline.

The overall responsibility for tutoring is to help improve student success and promote retention through filling in knowledge gaps in specific areas of training within a discipline.

This is a grant‑funded position through June 30, 2026. The Anne Arundel Community College Academic Tutor project is supported by the United States Department of Labor Perkins program with a grant of $406,880, which is 100% of the total cost of Perkins activities college wide.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide tutoring and/or coaching for students enrolled in a SHS health program of study who need assistance with content areas that are part of their program of study, but not related specifically to the discipline.
  • Help improve student success and promote retention through filling in knowledge gaps in these areas within their discipline.
  • Monitor students on their academic progress and assist with student retention activities.
  • Track each student encounter by program and report volume back to SHS Leadership and faculty/instructional staff that generated referrals.
  • Measure course‑level success for each student receiving services; measure student satisfaction surveys and outcomes.
  • Monitor, collect, analyze, and report on student success and retention data and develop progression and completion plans for students seeking services.
  • Collaborate with AACC's financial aid, registration, marketing, advising and admissions personnel as well as faculty and instructional staff in the SHS.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate degree or higher.
  • Two years of experience providing coaching or tutoring, case management or student support services.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision with attention to deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively and tactfully with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Proficiency in use of PC‑based computers and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
