Department: Division of Arts, Sciences, & Technologies Location: Dyer County, Tennessee Reports to: Dean of Arts, Sciences, & Technologies Position Overview Discover more Educational Resources teaching college Dyersburg State Community College (DSCC) seeks a dedicated Culinary Arts Instructor to join the Division of Arts, Sciences, & Technologies. This is a full-time, grant-funded fiscal year position primarily located in the Dyer County area.
Colleges & Universities The successful candidate will teach, advise, and manage the Culinary Arts program while preparing students for culinary careers through engaging, industry-relevant instruction.
- Teach 30 instructional hours (TLE) per academic year in Culinary Arts or related fields.
- Serve as Program Advisor and Director for DSCC's Culinary Arts program.
- Instruct diverse student groups, including dual-enrollment high school students and adult learners.
- Recruit and engage prospective students from area high schools and the community.
- Deliver courses in various formats - in-person, online, hybrid, or off-campus - including evening or weekend classes as needed (personal vehicle required).
- Apply learning-centered, research-based teaching methods, including service-learning and cooperative learning strategies.
- Develop and manage web-enhanced and technology-supported courses following accessibility standards.
- Use DSCC’s course management system for all instructional activities.
- Collaborate with faculty to assess and improve course effectiveness.
- Participate in professional development and maintain membership in relevant professional associations.
- Mentor adjunct instructors and assist with curriculum revision and textbook selection.
- Advise students, maintain office hours, and actively participate in college committees.
- Assist in grant writing and program management.
- Communicate promptly with students and colleagues (response expected within 72 hours).
- Obtain Master Advisor certification and demonstrate readiness to teach in a correctional facility, if required.
- Primarily office and classroom settings; minimal exposure to hazards.
- Occasional travel required for program and college activities.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and related applications.
- Ability to teach, assess, and mentor students effectively.
- Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution, or Associate degree with demonstrated professional culinary competencies.
- Relevant culinary industry experience.
- Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
- College-level teaching experience.
- Experience using Zoom and Microsoft Teams for instruction.
Annual Salary: $41,670 - $50,500
