Position Summary

This role provides technical solutions in the design, implementation, management, and troubleshooting of enterprise‑wide network infrastructure and hybrid cloud environments. The engineer analyzes user department needs, establishes network design priorities, and leads the design, recommendation, and implementation of hardware and related software applications. They manage installation, testing, monitoring, and maintenance of data communications, wireless, IP‑based services, voice communications, and security cameras.

The position supports IIT’s culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead development and implementation of comprehensive network infrastructure designs that meet business requirements using scalable, cost‑effective technology.
  • Design, configure, implement, monitor, and support enterprise/hybrid network infrastructure (routers, switches, wireless, and video systems) across multiple data centers and sites.
  • Define and execute network security, health maintenance plans, processes, and documentation in line with industry standards.
  • Guide implementation and administration of system monitoring tools; monitor performance, tune key components, and recommend enhancements.
  • Manage projects to upgrade or expand network infrastructure, including design, planning, testing, and implementation.
  • Develop and maintain architectural diagrams and document repositories for installation, administration, and maintenance of systems.
  • Plan and execute changes to hybrid network infrastructure following established change‑management processes.
  • Troubleshoot incidents, identify root causes, implement preventive measures, and ensure availability of applications and services.
  • Assist in budget planning and vendor management, supporting SOWs, RFPs, and RFQs for technology initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and training to AACC staff and students to develop new technology skills.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum five years of relevant experience.
  • Current industry‑standard cloud certification (e.g., Extreme ECNA, Aruba ACMA, ACMP).
  • Hands‑on experience with Extreme Networks wired network infrastructure products and management software.
  • Experience with cloud (AWS, Azure) networking and/or security.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining complex LAN/WAN, Ethernet, and fiber‑optic cabling infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols (RIP, BGP, EIGRP, OSPF, IGRP), IPSEC, wireless, TCP/IP, switched Ethernet, VLAN technologies.
  • Layer 2 and 3 LAN design and operation expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications:

    Extreme Networks Associate/Professional (ECS/ECP) highly desired; other routing/switching certifications considered.
  • Microsoft Azure Network Engineer Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert highly desired.
  • Experience with Extreme Networks routers/switches, Panduit cable management, HPE/Aruba wireless, Fat Pipe WAN optimization, APC UPS.
