More specifically, the Groundskeeper I is responsible for performing all tasks related to maintaining the campus grounds, roads and parking lots. This includes but is not limited to trash collection from the campus grounds/parking lots, seasonal landscaping and snow removal. In addition, the position is required to assist Event Services with the set up/breakdown of room arrangements, assembly of furniture/staging and relocation of equipment.

This position is designated as Essential Personnel. The incumbent is required to assist in meeting the operational needs of the College during emergencies and college closures, as well as, ensure continuity of strategic services.

Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd. As an employee of the college, you are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.

In the best interest of the College, only individuals who are residents of Maryland or one of the following states will be eligible for employment at the college:
Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. The college will annually review this restriction and, if appropriate, expand the list of states of employment eligibility.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

What you will do in this role:

  • Maintain the campus in a neat and orderly manner by collecting trash on the grounds and in parking lots, emptying trash containers; removing leaves and debris from all steps and sidewalks.
  • Mow grassy areas. Trim and edge as needed and remove grass clippings from streets and sidewalks.
  • Establish and maintain flowerbeds, shrubbery and trees; including soil preparation, planting, fertilizing, thinning, mulching, feeding, watering, pruning, raking leaves and weeding as needed. Tree planting and removal as needed.
  • Maintain snow removal equipment, including attaching plow blades, salt spreaders, hoppers, and etc. on appropriate Grounds vehicles. Operate snow removal equipment to keep campus roadways, walkways, common areas and steps clear of ice and snow. Clean and repair snow removal equipment and vehicles as needed.
