Contract/Salary: Teacher Salary Schedule 179/183 days

Reports To: Building Principal

Position Summary: To help students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible members of society.

Qualifications / Education
  • Valid Missouri Teaching Certification K-12:
    Blind and Partially Sighted required.
  • Valid ACVREP Certification for Orientation and Mobility Specialist, preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with personnel, students, and patrons in individual and group settings.
  • Knowledge of informal and formal assessment procedures and curriculum standards.
  • Ability to work effectively with students with autism.
  • Ability to develop quality, compliant IEPs.
Job Responsibilities
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the district.
  • Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superiors.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals: establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education, curriculum, instructional goals and objectives.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assesses the progress of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policy.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Accept a share of responsibility for co‑curricular activities as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relations with others.
  • Provide for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework at institutions of higher learning.
  • Counsel with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis.
  • Other duties as assigned by the building principal.
