PAY CATEGORY: Paid according to the applicable substitute pay rate for assigned position.
School Year:
Substitute Aides - $16.58/Hour;
Substitute Teacher - $130/Day
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and/or Substitute & Family Leave Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY: Substitute Staff play a vital role in supporting the District's educational mission by ensuring continuity of learning and maintaining a safe, positive, and productive school environment during the absence of regular employees. Substitute Aides provide instructional support, student supervision, clerical assistance, and other services under the direction of certified staff and school administrators, while Substitute Teachers provide classroom instruction, implement lesson plans, and manage the learning environment.
All Substitute Staff are expected to demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, sound judgment, and a commitment to student success while adhering to District policies, procedures, and expectations.
ASSIGNMENT EXPECTATIONS:
Substitute Staff are expected to regularly review and accept available substitute assignments throughout the school year to remain active in the District's substitute pool. The District reserves the right to remove substitute employees from the active substitute roster when assignment activity does not meet District operational needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:All Substitute Staff
- Report to the assigned building at least twenty (20) minutes prior to the official school start time unless otherwise directed.
- Report to the Building Principal or designated administrator upon arrival to receive assignments, schedules, and daily expectations.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, respectful, and positive learning environment by appropriately supervising students in classrooms and other assigned areas.
- Follow all District policies, Board policies, administrative regulations, school procedures, and safety protocols.
- Maintain confidentiality of student and employee information in accordance with applicable laws and District policy.
- Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, punctuality, appropriate appearance, and sound judgment in all interactions.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with administrators, teachers, staff, students, and families, as appropriate.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, administrators, and the school community.
- Take all reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, technology, and District facilities.
- Complete attendance, reports, documentation, and other required records, including end‑of‑day reports when requested.
- Promptly report concerns involving student safety, health, discipline, or emergencies to administration.
- Remain on duty through the assigned workday, including approximately fifteen (15) minutes after student dismissal or until released by administration.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Substitute Coordinator, or designee.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, the Substitute Aide shall:
- Assist teachers with student arrival, dismissal, and daily classroom routines.
- Support teachers by organizing classrooms, preparing instructional materials, maintaining classroom resources, and providing clerical assistance, including copying, filing, laminating, data entry, and preparing instructional materials.
- Assist with clerical duties in school offices, libraries, media centers, or other assigned areas.
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, hallways, bus loading and unloading, field trips, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned activities.
