Job Summary
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and truck type. They transport material to disposal, transfer or recycle facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial drivers provide pick‑up services for containers, which may weigh over 1,000 pounds, and are required to maneuver wheeled containers to a pickup stage area. They navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways and lots, requiring highly skilled backing maneuvers.
Residential drivers collect household waste or recyclable material and safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments. Roll‑off drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, navigating driveways, alleyways, lots, high‑traffic roads and tight overhead environments.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT and all applicable laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks using the standard DVIR.
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Route Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings and meetings as required by Waste Management or directed by the Route Manager.
- Work closely with Route Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify Route Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries or property damage.
- Notify Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Route Manager.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by Route Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
Required Qualifications
- No experience required.
- Ability to read, write and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions and complete records or reports.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air‑brake endorsement, or CDL Class B with an air‑brake endorsement, upon hire.
