School Nurse – Part-Time, Student Services (Temporary Position)

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree or higher from an accredited University
  • Valid California Registered Nurse credential
  • Possession of or eligible for a California credential with authorization as a school nurse
  • Valid California driver's license
  • Bilingual (desired)
  • Knowledge of 504 and IEP evaluation process (desired)
Responsibilities
  • Interpret the health and developmental status of students and communicate results to school personnel, parents, and students.
  • Provide counseling and plan action to eliminate or minimize health problems that interfere with learning.
  • Recommend educational program modifications when indicated by health or developmental status.
  • Offer training and consultation to staff on individual students’ health and developmental needs.
  • Serve as liaison between parents and school on health matters.
  • Develop individual health care plans, write reports, and maintain accurate health records.
  • Act as a health resource person for the school’s health instructional curriculum.
  • Lead implementation of medication administration protocols, first aid procedures, and universal precaution protocols.
  • Support schools in meeting their goals for a healthy and safe environment.
  • Consult on and participate in Safe Schools, Crisis Response, and other school safety teams.
  • Assist with medical emergencies and address hazards as they arise.
  • Assist with communicable or infectious disease control within the school community.
  • Implement California State mandated programs.
  • Perform vision and hearing screenings and all required assessments.
  • Attend and serve as a member of the SST and IEP team.
  • Conduct health assessments and evaluations for special educational eligibility and IEP goal development.
  • Maintain cooperative relationships with parents, staff, and district personnel.
  • Serve as liaison with other agencies and community services.
  • Participate in Medi-Cal LEA/MAA programs.
  • Represent the Student Services Department positively.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Stand and sit for extended periods.
  • Read printed materials with or without vision aids.
  • Talk and understand speech at normal levels.
  • Speak English clearly.
  • Move, lift, and carry up to 20 pounds to waist height.
  • Concentrate on a single task for up to two hours.
  • Learn quickly and adapt to various machinery and instructions.
  • Meet work deadlines.
  • Interact daily with school staff and maintain professional attitudes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of private information.
