Garing, Taylor & Associates, Inc. (GTA) is seeking a Civil Engineering Assistant Project Manager to join our team in Arroyo Grande, California. This role is primarily focused on the design and technical development of civil engineering projects
, with secondary responsibilities related to project budget, timeline management, and client coordination. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer who enjoys hands‑on project design while developing leadership skills in a collaborative environment.
- Lead the design process for civil engineering projects, including grading and drainage, water and sewer systems, and stormwater management (SWM / SWCP).
- Prepare Design Documents for project entitlements and Construction Documents for commercial, residential, and public works projects.
- Perform hydrology calculations and prepare reports to ensure compliance with municipal SWM and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrology software to produce high-quality engineering designs and documentation.
- Support project management functions
, including monitoring budgets, schedules, consultant coordination, and overall project performance. - Communicate with clients, consultants, and permitting agencies to ensure clarity in project expectations and smooth execution.
- Assist in mentoring junior engineers
, supporting their professional development within GTA’s strong mentoring program.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification in California (or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with plans to obtain PE soon).
- 4 to 6 years of civil engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on project design.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and hydrology software
. - Experience in grading and drainage design, water and sewer systems, hydrology reports, and stormwater management
. - Strong understanding of local SWM / SWCP requirements and municipal regulations
. - Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize design work while assisting in project management duties
. - Ability to collaborate and mentor junior staff while working in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
- Experience with public agency and capital improvement projects
. - Certified QSD or experience as a Resident/Deputy Engineer.
- Background in engineering inspections for stormwater drainage systems and vertical construction
.
- Salary range: $90,000 – $110,000 per year
