Position Summary:
The Educational Assistant (EA) supports teachers and students by helping to implement instructional programs, managing classroom behavior, and assisting with various student needs. This role may involve working with students with physical, developmental, or behavioral challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers with instructional and non-instructional tasks.
- Work one-on-one or with small groups of students to reinforce learning.
- Support students with special needs, including mobility, communication, or behavioral issues.
- Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during arrival/dismissal.
- Assist in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), if needed.
- Help students with daily living skills, including toileting, feeding, and dressing, if needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold school policies.
- Perform clerical duties like photocopying, filing, and organizing materials.
- Other duties, as assigned, by supervisor
Physical Requirements:
- Mobility: Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Must be able to move quickly in response to student needs.
- Lifting: Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including transferring or assisting students in wheelchairs or with mobility devices.
- Stamina: Ability to remain active and engaged for long periods; may involve working indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
- Dexterity: Fine motor skills required for writing, keyboarding, and assisting with student activities.
- Assistance Duties: Must be able to physically assist students with feeding, toileting, dressing, and hygiene if required.
Work Environment:
- Classroom, playground, or school grounds.
- Potential exposure to bodily fluids and infectious diseases.
- May involve interactions with students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
Work Schedule:
Follows the school calendar. May involve occasional evenings or weekends for book fairs or school events.
