Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
HF Sinclair is seeking a Reliability Specialist to conduct assignments and duties for the Reliability Department under limited supervision, increasing the overall reliability of engineering discipline assets within the refinery across Electrical, Instrumentation, and Rotating Equipment.
Job Duties- Uses technical concepts in the field to perform projects and assignments for the Reliability department, supporting plant reliability with direct supervision.
- Identifies and reviews defects and performance issues, including those noted by Operations and ODR Rounds, prior to work order generation.
- Performs technical monitoring and failure analysis to troubleshoot and resolve discipline‑specific equipment reliability issues.
- Acts as a discipline specialist and liaison between Engineering and Maintenance.
- Provides support for capital project design and installation.
- Visits maintenance and field sites to track status and quality of work on critical and “bad‑actor” equipment work orders.
- Maintains calibration and maintenance for all testing and inspection equipment used to ascertain integrity.
- Reviews and follows up on excursions reported through critical equipment health monitoring systems.
- Escalates issues that cannot be resolved.
- Conducts audits of third‑party maintenance to ensure suitability for manufacturing and/or repair of HFC equipment.
- Conducts audits to ensure adequate spare parts for all critical equipment (motors, breakers, switch gear, etc.).
- Completes audits of equipment management systems (repair QA/QC, PM and PdM programs, repair documentation, etc.) and identifies opportunities for improvement.
- Participates in corporate equipment technical team meetings and daily maintenance team meetings.
- Assists in equipment root cause failure analyses and in the startup of critical equipment after installation or repairs, participating in MOC/PSSR processes.
- Assists the Maintenance Engineer with developing and improving PM work scopes for general‑purpose equipment.
- Performs special assignments or tasks as directed by the supervisor.
A minimum of eight years of job‑related experience is required.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in Electrical, Instrumentation or Rotating Equipment, depending on specialty.
A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Preferred Educational Level:
- Trade school or journeyman/craftsman training.
- Knowledge of refinery operations and craft knowledge.
- Intermediate level leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic reading and writing skills and basic mathematical calculation ability.
- Proven interpersonal and safety‑sensitive troubleshooting skills.
- Team orientation and multitasking skills.
- Knowledge of safe work practices.
- Computer skills:
Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer, and ability to operate assigned maintenance systems. - Ability to lead and train a small group of employees.
- Maintenance of certification/training in relevant fields.
Depending on location, occasional relief supervisor responsibilities for hourly maintenance employees and oversight of 12–15 employees, or up to 50 contract employees. May serve as project manager for special assignments as required.
Work ConditionsOffice and field based. Up to 5% travel by land and air. Working environment includes petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant, outdoor, and driver‑based settings with exposure to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, electrical shock, and confined spaces. Periodic overtime required. Availability for after‑hours emergencies may be required.
