Travel RN - Emergency Dept

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a community hospital in Artesia, NM, requiring 5 years of ED experience and a robust set of emergency certifications.

• Active NM or Compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC, NRP, and NIHSS
• Minimum 5 years of emergency department experience required
• Trauma Level I or II ED experience accepted
• Must be proficient in mixing and titrating critical drips (e.g., Amiodarone, Cardizem, Epinephrine, Insulin)
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry and 12‑lead EKGs
• Strong critical thinking skills and ability to work independently required
• BSN not required

• Acute care community hospital ER setting, currently pursuing Level IV Trauma designation
• ER unit with 5 beds and 2 trauma bays, averaging 40–50 patients per day
• Nurse‑to‑patient ratio of 1:3
• Patient population ranges from minor injuries to major traumas, including crush injuries, burns, amputations, STEMIs, and strokes — proximity to oil fields results in a high volume of industrial trauma cases
• STEMIs and strokes are transferred out to higher‑level facilities
• Dedicated triage area with 1 triage nurse and 2 triage rooms
• No fast track; a walk‑in family practice clinic attached to the hospital handles lower‑acuity patients
• In‑house security 24/7 with 2 officers per shift; law enforcement available as needed
• 1 ED physician on‑site 24/7; house supervisor available in‑house 24/7
• ED techs (CNAs) provide support with secretary duties, vital signs, ADLs, I&Os, and more
• RT assigned to the ED during day shift; at night, RT covers the entire hospital
• X‑ray and CT available 24/7; ultrasound, interventional radiology, and MRI also available; portable imaging and patient transport support available
• Phlebotomy available; RNs may draw labs as needed
• Charting system:
  Tru Bridge (Evident)
• 12‑hour day shifts (7am–7pm)
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday rotation may be required
• No call or on‑call requirement
• No floating requirement
• 13‑week contract
• RNs are responsible for managing respiratory equipment, administering respiratory treatments, and performing 12‑lead EKGs
• Travelers are not expected to take on the charge nurse role
• Scheduling is flexible with no block scheduling guarantee; travelers are expected to help fill gaps in the permanent staff schedule
• 1–2 day unit orientation with a preceptor provided, based on individual needs
• Online modules must be completed prior to working the floor; modules take approximately 20 hours to complete and are initiated via email from the facility
• Navy blue scrubs required; hooded jackets are not permitted
