The LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair) / BWON Technician will work onsite at a refinery in Artesia, New Mexico, supporting environmental regulatory compliance for major oil and gas operators. This role focuses on Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) and Benzene Waste Operations (BWON) programs in accordance with EPA and state regulations.

Position Purpose / Key Responsibilities
  • Perform LDAR and BWON monitoring at a refinery following predetermined routes
  • Identify and inspect LDAR-applicable equipment, components, and flagged lines
  • Ensure compliance withEPA regulations (40 CFR) and site‑specific requirements
  • Conduct Method 21, AVO, BWON, OGI/IR, and visual inspections (including 40 CFR Subpart QQQ)
  • Use portable analyzers, electronic data collectors, and tablets to accurately monitor components
  • Generate and distribute

    Leak Reports, Notifications, and Emissions Reports per site requirements
  • Upload daily monitoring data to customer databases and complete required documentation
  • Re‑monitor repaired leaks and support calibration drift checks when instruments fail
  • Manage Management of Change (MOC) updates to ensure equipment databases remain accurate
  • Communicate daily leaks, findings, and concerns with operations and maintenance teams
  • Escort regulatory auditors during inspections and assist with corrective actions
  • Identify opportunities to improve LDAR program efficiency and effectiveness
  • Develop skills to lead LDAR projects and perform LDAR audits
  • Progressively learn to read and interpretP&IDs
Required Knowledge & Experience
  • LDAR, BWON, refinery, or chemical plant experience preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with EPA environmental regulations and refinery operations is a plus
  • Experience usingportable gas analyzers, tablets, and electronic data systems preferred
  • Basic computer skills required (Microsoft Word, Excel, data entry systems)
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify leak causes and equipment issues
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with site personnel
Essential Functions
  • Report all incidents, injuries, near misses, and unsafe conditions immediately
  • Demonstrate competency in LDAR technologies (OGI/IR and other monitoring methods)
  • Work closely with Site Supervisors, management, and customers to meet compliance goals
  • Review work completed by others and identify gaps or areas of concern
  • Perform re‑monitoring and follow‑up inspections as required
  • Support audits and regulatory inspections
  • Perform additional technician duties as assigned
