Base Pay Range

$110,000 – $150,000 per year.

Why We Need You

Apex Underground is growing rapidly and taking on larger municipal and commercial utility projects across the Denver Metro area and Colorado Front Range. We need a Civil Utility Superintendent who can lead safe, efficient, and high–quality field operations to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.

Your Regular Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily on‑site operations to ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with plans, municipal standards, and specifications.
  • Coordinate and supervise foremen, equipment operators, laborers, and utility crews performing excavation, trenching, pipe installation, structures, and bore‑related work.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Project Coordinators to ensure alignment between field operations, schedules, budgets, and project goals.
  • Use HCSS (Heavy Job) to track and approve daily timecards, cost‑code labor and equipment accurately, capture quantities, and compare daily production against estimated budgets.
  • Monitor production rates, crew performance, and equipment utilization, adjusting manpower and sequencing to meet schedule and financial objectives.
  • Conduct and document regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and jobsite inspections to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, municipal details, plans, and specifications to ensure accuracy and prevent rework.
  • Manage subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring their work meets Apex’s standards for safety, quality, and schedule adherence.
  • Prepare daily reports documenting job progress, site conditions, equipment use, manpower, and production quantities.
  • Inspect completed work to verify compliance with project specifications, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Promote environmental awareness by ensuring proper material handling, erosion control measures, and clean job sites.
Your Team for Collaboration & Support

You will report directly to the COO and the General Superintendent.

You will collaborate closely with:

  • Project Managers, Assistant Project Managers, and Project Coordinators
  • Foremen, equipment operators, and field crews
  • Safety Manager
  • Subcontractors and suppliers
  • Yard and equipment logistics personnel
Expectations & Outcomes of Your Work
  • Projects completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to client and municipal standards.
  • Strong compliance with OSHA, Apex safety policies, and trench safety requirements.
  • Accurate HCSS time‑card reviews and production tracking, supporting strong financial performance.
  • Productive, motivated crews with minimal downtime and high‑quality installations.
  • Clear communication with PMs, Project Coordinators, subcontractors, suppliers, and municipal inspectors.
  • Positive jobsite culture focused on accountability, craftsmanship, and safety.
Technical Requirements
  • 5+ years of experience as a foreman, superintendent, or similar leadership role in underground utilities, heavy civil, or excavation.
  • Strong knowledge of underground utility installation including water, sewer, storm drain, services, structures, and bore operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, municipal standards, plans, and specifications.
  • OSHA 30 required (OSHA 10 acceptable minimum if upgrading toward 30).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience with HCSS Heavy Job or similar systems for time‑card approval, cost coding, and production tracking.
  • Proficient with basic computer skills for reporting and communication.

Compensation

$110,000 to $150,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications.
