Position: ASSISTANT MEDIA RELATIONS DIRECTOR, AIR FORCE ACADEMY

Athletic communications coordinator is responsible for assisting with the execution of the media and public relations plans for 27-sport intercollegiate Division I programs. Responsible for overall operations of  for sports assigned. Serves as primary media relations contact for Women's Basketball and select other sports with responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, working as the primary liaison with media relations contacts;

writing press releases, championship preparation and coverage; and administering athletic (regular and post-season); academic awards programs in those sports; reporting to conference and national offices. Lead efforts on social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc) for selected sports. Design and edit record books, media guides, programs and flyers using Adobe Creative Suites, including InDesign and Photoshop. Create original content for the official website  and various social media platforms, including, but not limited to, writing feature stories, Q&A and more.

May be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty. Other related duties as assigned.

NOTE: The position is advertised on USAJOBS for Baseball, Women's soccer and Swimming - THIS IS INCORRECT - This position will be for Women's Basketball and select other sports.

Must have bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field (sports management), plus at least two years of experience working in athletic media relations/public relations field at collegiate (NCAA) or professional level.

Computer proficient, extensive knowledge in desktop publishing, including InDesign/Adobe Creative Suites; experience with Genius (basketball), Stat broadcast statistical software essential;
Possesses strong organization skills and excellent in oral, written and interpersonal skills including interviewing skills. Experience with web management (Netitor or related software), social media platforms and content publishing. Must demonstrate extensive ability in feature story writing. Must be able to multitask and work under deadline pressure. Must be able to speak, write and communicate in fluent English and have normal hearing.

Must have ability to work flexible hours, including nights/weekends and/or holidays, in addition to possible travel with athletic teams. Must have the ability for regular and recurring physical exertion such as long visits to outdoor sites and sporting events, with exposure to inclement weather. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. A pre-employment physical is required. Must have a valid driver’s license.
