Position Overview

This is a part‑time Classroom Aide position in the Jefferson County Head Start program for children ages 3‑5. The role supports the Lead Teacher in implementing lesson plans, maintaining a safe and organized environment, and providing individualized support for children with developmental needs.

Hourly: $18.11 – $21.00 USD (salary will be determined based on education, experience, and skills). Fluent in a language other than English may be eligible for additional compensation of $1,500 annually.

• Assist with the implementation of daily lesson plans and activities for preschool‑aged children.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
• Provide one‑on‑one or small group support to children with developmental needs.
• Encourage children’s independence and facilitate positive peer interactions.
• Monitor and supervise children during classroom activities, transitions, meals, and outdoor play.
• Assist children with self‑help skills, including toileting, diapering, handwashing, and eating.
• Ensure compliance with Head Start performance standards across education, disabilities, parent involvement, nutrition, health, and mental health.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team—including mental health specialists, special education professionals, and family support workers—to provide best service for families.
• Attend staff meetings, training, and events as needed.
• Receive food deliveries and serve food at appropriate times.
• Adhere to all Head Start policies, procedures, and performance standards, as well as applicable local, state, and federal laws.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• One year of experience in a classroom or early childhood setting.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Must meet one of the following minimum ECT qualification options:
  • Enrolled in a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential program to be completed within two years of employment.
  • Hold a CDA credential or a state‑awarded certificate that meets or exceeds CDA requirements.
  • Enrolled in a program leading to an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
• Preferred: 1–2 years of experience in a preschool setting, experience with social and emotional learning (SEL) curriculum, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
