Head Start Classroom Aide
Job posted by Jefferson County Head Start Division. This part‑time position (20 scheduled weekly hours) is non‑benefit eligible and requires no more than 130 hours per calendar month.
Responsibilities- Assist in implementation of daily lesson plans and activities for preschool‑aged children.
- Help maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment.
- Provide one‑on‑one support or small group assistance to children with various developmental needs.
- Encourage children’s independence and facilitate positive peer interactions.
- Monitor and supervise children during activities, transitions, meals, and outdoor play.
- Assist children with self‑help skills, including toileting, diapering, handwashing, and eating.
- Ensure compliance with Head Start performance standards (education, disabilities, parent involvement, nutrition, health, and mental health).
- Partner with interdisciplinary team members (mental health specialists, special education professionals, family support workers).
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, training, and events as needed.
- Handle food deliveries and serve food at appropriate times.
- Adhere to all Head Start policies, procedures, and local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- One year of relevant experience.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must meet one of the following ECT qualification options:
- Enrolled in a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential program to be completed within two years.
- CDA credential or equivalent state‑awarded certificate.
- Enrolled in a program leading to an associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
- Preferred:
- 1–2 years of experience in early childhood education or development.
- Experience implementing social and emotional learning (SEL) curriculum.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to use computer programs for documentation.
Compensation: $18.11–$21.00 USD per hour, determined by education, experience, and skills. Fluency in a language other than English may qualify for an additional $1,500 annually.
This is a temporary, non‑benefit eligible position; there is no holiday pay. Temporary staff earn one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours.
