D'Evelyn is an “option” school, offering students in 6th‑12th grade a rigorous and disciplined education in the liberal arts. The D'Evelyn Program is based on the belief that all students, not just an elite group, should be held to rigorous academic and behavioral standards, and that all students can achieve in a challenging program. We believe the purpose of education is to convey an essential body of cultural knowledge to the next generation, and that a solid liberal arts education is required in order for all citizens to be effective participants in their communities.

Our comprehensive and prescribed textbook‑based curriculum is aligned both vertically and horizontally. We believe in teacher‑directed, whole group instruction where the teacher leads the entire class through the same lesson at the same time.

The school's operational philosophy emphasizes a participatory approach to management. D'Evelyn is governed by a D'Evelyn Steering Committee, composed of parents, teachers, and the D'Evelyn principal, serves as the governing board of the school.
