Library Technician
Under the direction of a licensed staff member, prepare library resources for library and classroom use. Assist in maintaining an integrated library system. Help students locate appropriate materials and check books in and out. Maintain equipment. Work with small groups of students to reinforce instruction. Perform various clerical tasks.
Responsibilities- Maintain library books, periodicals, and online resources, including taking inventory, circulating media materials, issuing overdue notices, ordering and repairing books, processing interlibrary loan requests, providing online access points, and performing other circulation desk duties.
- Provide academic curriculum support by preparing library displays, bulletin boards, charts, and other visual aids for library and classroom use; schedule and manage media equipment usage, repair, inventory, maintenance, and ordering of related supplies; share information from the District Library with administrators, staff, and the community.
- Assist students with curriculum reinforcement individually and in small groups to ensure mastery of information literacy skills, research resources, and class-assigned projects.
- Assist with supervision of students and parent volunteers in the media center.
- Perform basic clerical work such as typing, stapling, filing, duplicating, and taking inventory.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested; attend District Library staff development.
This role has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications- Criminal background check and fingerprinting required.
- High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma.
- One (1) year of professional work experience.
- Basic knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, fax machines, and email.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Basic knowledge of media equipment.
- Intermediate English language skills.
- Intermediate oral and written communication skills.
- Advanced interpersonal relations skills.
- Advanced organizational skills.
- Ability to work alone and with others.
- Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Ability to work one-on-one and in small groups with students.
- Light work strength (lifting or carrying up to 25 pounds).
- Primarily works indoors.
- Typically a quiet noise level.
- Work location is subject to change to meet the requirements of the organization.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and climbing.
- Eye/hand coordination (e.g., typing, ten key).
- Visual concentration.
- Concentrated reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Prolonged standing and walking.

- Occasional lifting, pulling, and/or pushing.
- Normal school district environment.
- Experience working in the public sector.
- Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Racially conscious and culturally competent with the skill, will, capacity, and knowledge to commit to a culture of continuous improvement.
- Associate degree.
- Public (e.g., school district, city, county) library, classroom/instructional work in an educational setting, or licensed teaching experience.
- Experience working in a school district or educational setting.
- Experience working with school age children.
- CPR and First Aid certifications.
